Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Public Library, 609 Main St., will be hosting two free events in early October.

On Saturday, Oct. 5, Dr. Susanna O’Hara, a local practicing psychologist and author of a new book, “Love and Marriage for a Lifetime: How to Get It, How to Keep It” will be speaking at 2 p.m. Dr. O’Hara has years of marriage counseling experience, helping people address and resolve issues and problems in their relationships. For further information, call 508-841-8531.

On Thursday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m., there will be an introductory class on French Canadian genealogy. The workshop leader is George C. Brown, assistant director and head of Adult Services at the library. The class will include basic sources, peculiarities, tips and shortcuts to help participants get started uncovering their north-of-the-border family history. Both Quebec and Acadian ancestry sources will be discussed. There will be helpful handouts, ample time for questions, and light refreshments.

Brown has been researching his own family history for about two decades.  He started a Genealogy Club at the Library several years ago; the club meets regularly at the library on the fourth Monday of every month, and is open to all interested in the field.

Registration is required, either online (www.shrewsbury-ma.gov/library) or by calling 508-841-8531.
