Shrewsbury: Shrewsbury Democrats to hold caucus

March 1, 2014

ShrewsburyDemocrats in Shrewsbury will hold a caucus Saturday, March 1, at 10 a.m. at the Shrewsbury Fire Station, 11 Church Road, to select delegates to the 2014 Massachusetts Democratic State Convention. Participants will elect 18 delegates and three alternates.

The convention will be held Friday, June 13, and Saturday, June 14, at the DCU Center in Worcester, where Democrats from across Massachusetts will vote to endorse candidates for statewide office. Democratic candidates for statewide office, including governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and state treasurer must secure the votes of at least 15 percent of convention delegates in order to earn a place on the September primary ballot.

All registered Democrats in Shrewsbury may run for delegate or vote at the caucus, provided that they were registered as such by Jan. 31, 2014. Those wishing to run or vote must arrive prior to 10:15 a.m., when registration will close. Those not elected as delegate and/or alternate at the caucus, but who meet the qualifications, may apply to be add-on delegates in a variety of categories; more information is available at www.MassDems.org.

Any interested member of the public may attend the caucus to observe or learn about the process. For additional caucus information, contact Shrewsbury Democratic Town Committee Chair Jason Palitsch at ShrewsburyDTC@Gmail.com.

The caucus is organized by the Shrewsbury Democratic Town Committee, which is the local Democratic Party entity in Shrewsbury, and functions to support Democratic candidates running for area offices. Anyone interested in becoming involved in the committee may visit www.ShrewsburyDemocrats.org, or contact the chair via email at ShrewsburyDTC@Gmail.com.
