“Humiliation, Shame and Apology: Critical Dimensions of Interpersonal Relations” will be presented from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at the UMass Medical School Faculty Conference Room, 55 Lake Ave. North, Worcester. Cost: $50 for MD, NP & Pas, $25 for nurses, residents and all others. Sponsored by the UMass Department of Psychiatry and UMass Office of Continuing Medical Education. Dr. Lazare, an international expert on apology and the self-conscious emotions, is the author of over 70 original articles, book chapters, and several books. His book “On Apology” (Oxford University Press, 2004) examines the integral components of effective and sincere apologies and provides a deeper understanding of interpersonal, national, and international conflicts and how they might be resolved through apology. Most recently, Dr. Lazare has published Apologizing for Humiliations in Medical Practice (Chest, April 2011).
