Director of health issues warning about toothpaste
      Shrewsbury - Nancy Allen, Shrewsbury's director of health, has posted on the town Web site a notice passed on by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warning consumers about the possibility that toothpaste available locally may contain a toxic chemical called diethylene glycol.

Santa Simone to celebrate century
      Shrewsbury - Santa Simone will celebrate her 100th birthday July 28 surrounded by three generations of offspring. A longtime resident of Shrewsbury, Santa lives in her own home, according to her granddaughter, Sandra Pedersen. Her son, Richard Simone, and both her granddaughters, Pedersen and Jane Nolle, and her grandson, Steven Simone, all live in Shrewsbury.

Senator to hold Shrewsbury office hours
      Shrewsbury - State Sen. Edward M. Augustus Jr., DWorcester, will hold office hours at the Shrewsbury Senior Center from 11 a.m. to noon Monday July 23. Constituents are encouraged to attend to voice comments, ask questions and express concerns regarding state and local matters.

Thursday evening hours restored at library
      Shrewsbury - Shrewsbury's Board of Library Trustees has announced the restoration of Thursday evening hours at the Shrewsbury Public Library. Due to budget cuts two years ago, evening hours had been cut. With the beginning of the new fiscal year July 1, library patrons will now find the library open until 9 p.m. Thursdays.
