Tony Cabral, Carlson GMAC Real Estate

By Brian Cronin Contributing Writer

Tony Cabral Tony Cabral Business Name: Address: 249 Lakeside Ave., Marlborough Background: Tony Cabral was born in New Bedford. A third-generation Portuguese-American, his family owned restaurants in that area for many years. Cabral moved to the Marlborough area in the late 1960s and started as a land developer and builder before going into real estate sales in 1970. Being multilingual has allowed him the opportunity to serve several facets of the local community, making him a full-service agent for those seeking commercial or residential property in and around the Marlborough area. Why did you choose this business? "When I first moved to the area, I got involved in building and developing," Cabral said. "It was hard and very competitive to start out and the opportunities were hard to come by. I decided at some point to try selling rather than building and I enjoyed it. I enjoyed working with people and using my background to assist many different people in the area from all over to get the best home, business or even land. I get a lot of pleasure from helping people realize their dreams whatever they are and have been enjoying it now for over 37 years." What is the best advice you ever got? "I was also told once that the key to success is knowledge. Know your customer, listen and listen well to what they are saying. If you don't understand, never assume; ask until you understand what it is they need from you. Part of this same advice was to use that knowledge of your customer and work as hard as you can and always be honest. When you say you are going to be somewhere at a specific time, mean it and be there. If you can't be somewhere, be honest and save your client and yourself valuable time, and tell them the truth." Community involvement: "I am a long-standing member of the Marlborough Rotary Club, an active member of the Church of St. Michael's and a frequent volunteer at area girls and boys clubs of America."
