Mary E. McCarthy, 68

Marlborough - Mary E. (Curtin) McCarthy, 68, died at home Thursday, June 21, 2007 after being stricken ill.

She leaves her husband of 47 years, Francis McCarthy, and her children, Ellen McCarthy; James McCarthy and his wife, Kathleen; Joseph McCarthy; Paul McCarthy and his wife, Margaret; Michael McCarthy; and Eileen McCarthy and her husband, Dennis Clark. She also leaves her mother, Mary (Donlon) Curtin; her siblings, Joseph Curtin, Thomas Curtin and Anne Marie Hamel; and her grandchildren, Jennifer McCarthy, Shawn Clark, Ryan McCarthy, Kelsey Mc- Carthy, Jeffrey Clark, Timothy McCarthy, Kaitlin McCarthy, Samantha Clark, Andrew Mc- Carthy, Sean McCarthy, Alanna McCarthy and Kolleen McCarthy.

Born in Cambridge, the daughter of Mary and the late Joseph Curtin, she had lived in Marlborough for the past 10 years. She graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School of East Cambridge in 1956 and also attended Boston College.

Mrs. McCarthy was a camp director for four years at Cub Adventure Day Camp at Camp Resolute in Bolton, retiring in 2004. Previously, she owned and operated Aunt Mary's Day Care of Natick for over 10 years. She was also the Explores Director at Norumbega Council in Waban for several years and the district executive at Norumbega Council.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and the executive board of the Boy Scouts of America Knox Trail Council, as well as a National Camp School Host Council representative at Camp Resolute. Most recently, she was the Woodbadge Course Director for the Northeast Region. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed gardening.

Funeral services were held June 25 from the John P. Rowe Funeral Home of Marlborough, with burial at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Woodbadge Scholarship - BSA Fund, c/o Fatima Mendonca, St. Mary's Credit Union, 133 West Main St., Marlborough, MA 01752.
