Shrewsbury - "Serving dentistry with excellence" is the motto of Bryan Dental Associates. In 1977, Dr. Peter L. Bryan opened up the dental practice, which now is a family-run business with the addition of his son Dr. Eric Bryan in 1999. Peter's wife, Jan Bryan, and daughter, Ellen Mulroy, also work in the office.

With the expansion of the office in 2004, the practice now employs six dental hygienists, three dental assistants and several full-time office personnel to best meet patients' needs.

Unlike many other dentist offices, Bryan Dental offers all dental services in-house. Jan explained that the doctors and assistants practice "four-handed dentistry," which allows them to provide total dental needs of the patients. Some of the services that the practice provides include: restorative, oral and periodontal surgery; crown and bridge treatments; implants; nonsurgical periodontal treatments and root canals; cosmetics; bleaching; and individualized full-mouth reconstruction, as well as oral hygiene and other preventative services.

In order to provide their patients the best care, the hygienists, assistants and office personnel attend regular continuing education courses to stay abreast of the latest development in dentistry. Jan explained that they hold regular meetings with doctors and staff to evaluate procedures.

"We really listen to our staff," Jan said. "We have an excellent staff of hard workers. I feel so blessed to have them."

Both Peter and Eric hold undergraduate degrees in engineering, which gives then a greater understanding of scientific forces, materials and chemicals.

"This background has really served them in understanding the new trends in dentistry," Jan said.

She explained that both doctors are cautious when evaluating new procedures and don't get carried away with new fads.

"Tried-and-true methods sometimes are more reliable then new materials and approaches," Jan said.

She explained that implants were a new dentistry technique that the doctors had evaluated and felt would benefit patients. The office now offers patients who in years past would have needed bridges the option of titanium implants with porcelain over gold in place of bridges.

The office has an established patient base that will call from Florida, Japan or Cape Cod for a phone consultation in a dental emergency.

"Service is our numberone goal," Jan said. "The patient is the most important. From the minute they walk in the door we want to give them the best experience."

The office is staffed accordingly and can accept new patients into the practice. Whether it is a child's first cleaning, an adult with a fear of the dentist, some- one looking for an extreme dental make-over or an elderly patient, the office is prepared to offer quality dental care.
