Thirdgraders go fishing

Shrewsbury - Calvin Coolidge School third-grader Khrista Houle holds up the Pumpkin Fish she caught during the "Calvin Coolidge Fishing Derby" at Jordan Pond in June.

Students were instructed by Jim Lagacy, coordinator of the Angler Education Program through the state's Division of Fisheries and Wildlife in Westborough. Volunteer George Markey and Park Ranger Susan Ingalls also were on hand to help the children with their fishing skills as well as teaching them about the habitat of the fish and other things in and around the pond.

Students released any fish that were caught.
