Garden Club announces 2007 scholarship recipients

Westborough - The Westborough Garden Club has found a way to help lighten the load for today's students with an interest in horticulture or landscaping. The Westborough Garden Club provides scholarships to deserving graduating Westborough High School (WHS) seniors who are interested in garden-related activities.

At the WHS graduation ceremonies June 2 two students were presented scholarships. Heather Christie and Mark Ventriglia are this year's recipients.

Christie is an active member of the WHS Environmental Club and has helped to maintain the WHS gardens that are part of the Garden Club's Community Gardens. She will be attending St. Michael's College in Vermont in the fall and is the daughter of Anne and Bob Hoover.

Ventriglia has been working for Terrascaping and Construction for four years and also has been a mason aid worker. He participates in the WHS marching band and school pep band, and plays recreation basketball. He will be attending Suff olk University in the fall, majoring in business. He is the son of Anna and Joe Ventriglia.

The Westborough Garden Club scholarship fund is derived from many sources including the annual plant sale, memberships, donations and the Holiday Floral Program. The scholarships are awarded based on scholastic record, character, initiative and interest. The selection of the scholarship winners is made by the club's Scholarship Committee.
