Francis E. McLaughlin, 91

Shrewsbury - Francis E. McLaughlin, 91, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 5, 2007, surrounded by his loving family, at UMass Memorial Medical Center. He wass predeceased by his wife of 50 years, L. Esther (Anthony) McLaughlin, who died in 1998.

He leaves his son, William McLaughlin, MD and his wife, Anne Seger, MD; his grandchildren, Ryan McLaughlin and Meghan McLaughlin; his sister, Emily Leahy; and nieces and nephews.

Born Sept, 10, 1915, the son of Francis McLaughlin and Rosene vonSchoppe, he was raised in Somerville. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in the Pacific corridor. After World War II, he moved to Pittsfield and then to Shrewsbury two years ago.

Mr. McLaughlin was an investigator and hearings officer for the Registry of Motor Vehicles, retiring in 1979 after 32 years of service.

"Mac" was "Grampy" to all who met him and was famous for his Irish cheer and his wondrous smile. He loved the Red Sox and spending time on Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire.

Funeral services were held July 9 from Our Lady of Good Counsel in West Boylston, with private burial in Pittsfield. Memorial donations may be made to the Lake Sunapee Protective Association, 72 Main St., Sunapee, NH 03782.
