Elizabeth Wilkinson Curtis, 78

Westborough - Elizabeth "Betty" (McGowan) Wilkinson Curtis of Walker Meadow died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, after an illness. Her first husband, Joseph Wilkinson, died in 1962. She lost her beloved husband of 45 years, Frederick Curtis, in 2004.

She leaves her children, Lynda Brophy and her husband, Dennis; Susan Potsios and her husband, Gianpaolo; Amy Kelly and her husband, Scott; Kevin Wilkinson and his wife, Kathleen; Marc Curtis, and his wife, Carla; Peter "Buster" Wilkinson; Andrew Curtis and his wife, Ellen; and Frederick "Skip" Curtis Jr. and his wife, Sarah. In addition, she leaves her brother, Thomas McGowan and his wife, Sissy; her sisters, Mary Peacott, Jean Martin and her husband, Donald, and Lillian Wardwell and her husband, William; 27 grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; and much loved nieces and nephews. She also leaves many dear friends, including, Phyllis, Aunt Janie, Aunt Marilyn, Pat and Marsha. She was predeceased in 2005 by her daughter, Elizabeth "Tish" (Curtis) Schlegel.

Born March 1, 1929, she was the daughter of Irish immigrants, James and Rose (Finnigan) McGowan of New York City, she was one of 12 children. Over the years, she lived in many communities, including Boston, Hopedale, Holden, Shrewsbury, Northborough and Westborough, while bringing up her large family.

Mrs. Curtis traveled extensively with her husband, Fred, throughout the world. She enjoyed nothing more than having large get-togethers for her family and friends. In January 2007, she organized an "Irish Wake" for herself at her Maine home, where she entertained and was entertained with stories, songs, dance and much laughter.

She had a heart of gold, and a keen eye for those in need. She shared her joy and love with all whom she encountered. She will be missed by all.

Calling hours with a closing service were held July 9 from Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel of Worcester. The family will spread the ashes of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis at a later time. Memorial donations may be made to Jhamtse International Children's Community, 25 Duggan Rd., Acton, MA 01720.
