Hudson - More than 20 people gathered at the Senior Center July 12 to discuss Terry Ryan's book "The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio: How My Mother Raised Ten Children on Twenty-Five Words or Less." The book is a true story about Terry's mother, Evelyn Ryan, who raised 10 children in the 1950s and 1960s on the money she won from poetry, jingles and advertisement contests.
The book discussion is part of Hudson Public Library's town-wide reading event "One Book, One Hudson." The event began in April and runs through the end of August and is part of reading event founded in 1996 to create a community of reading and discussion based on one book.
The library has chosen one book for each of four age groups. For the different groups, the library is hosting several activities including a visit and book signing from the illustrator of the "Bugliest Bug," Scott Nash, who will be at the library Saturday Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. On Wednesday Aug. 1 at 7 p.m., two of Evelyn's children and Terry's siblings, Bruce and Betsy Ryan, will be at the library to discuss the book and answer questions.
