Local football Citing a lack of interested players and financial issues, the Marlborough Shamrocks semi-pro football team has decided, for the second time in three years, not to field a team in the Eastern Football League (EFL). Bob Brennan, the longtime coach of the team who now serves as a consultant, confirmed the reasoning behind the team's self-imposed one-year leave of absence from the EFL. Last year the team, under first-year coach Bob Devoe, compiled a 6-5 record. In 2005, for similar reasons, Brennan said, the team also opted to not field a team. Brennan said he and Devoe are both optimistic the Shamrocks will have enough interest to field a team in 2008.
