Elizabeth Connolly Memorial Fund established
By Ken Powers Contributing Writer

Shrewsbury - A scholarship fund has been established in memory of Elizabeth Connolly, the 20-year-old town resident who died earlier this month following an accident at Westfield State College.

Family and friends of Elizabeth, a 2005 graduate of Shrewsbury High School, have created the Elizabeth Connolly Memorial Fund, which will provide scholarships to benefit local students who plan to enter the field of education.

Donations to the Elizabeth Connolly Memorial Fund can be made in person at the Shrewsbury Federal Credit Union at 615 Main St. in Shrewsbury, or sent to the Shrewsbury Federal Credit Union, PO Box 227, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.

Elizabeth was injured June 30 when, according to statements released by Westfield State College, she fell out of the golf cart in which she was riding. She was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, where she remained in critical condition until her death July 9.

Elizabeth was working at Westfield State as an orientation leader for the college's summer program for new students and their families. Orientation leaders often travel across the 250-acre campus, located at the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains, in golf carts, according to Craig Phelon, a public relations representative for the college.

Elizabeth, who was studying education, hoped to one day work alongside her mother, Barbara Connolly, who is a fourth-grade teacher at the Paton School.
