As part of the excavation business, a company must maintain an array of large trucks to move large and heavy payloads from site to sale. So being around trucks has instilled in the Mauros a love for working on vehicles. "I have always relied on and worked on trucks," Patrick said. "I may have inhaled too many fumes, but trucks, especially antique trucks, are my favorite hobby." Patrick and David are both board members of New England Antique Truck Club, a 26-year-old association founded by Chester Fox and Bill Simple. On Sunday Aug. 5, the Hudson Elks, located at 99 Park St. in Hudson, will welcome the association's 26th annual Antique Truck Show. Held for the last 15 years at the Elks Club, the show is a fun, family-oriented day designed to bring antique truck enthusiasts from around New England together to share in their passion and raise money for charity. Patrick and three other Antique Truck Club board members - Bob Anatucci, Peter Berardi and Mal Mc- Millan - consider the show as a great time to gather family and friends to enjoy every kind of truck from large antique dumps all the way to pickups. "There is no judging of the trucks," Patrick said. "And we take all the trucks, even those that might not be 25 years old." In Massachusetts, 25 is the age required to be officially classified antique, but the club members take a diff erent view. "Close is good enough," Patrick said. "We just want people to come down have good time, enjoy the trucks and help us raise some money for charity. It's like a car swap except better, it's for antique trucks." The show starts at 8 a.m. and has a $2 donation for adults, with kids under 10 getting in for free. This year the proceeds from the show, expecting to draw anywhere from 250 to 300 trucks and 1,500 to 2,000 spectators, will be divided equally among the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Clara Barton charities and the Prostate Cancer Association. The show will off er events for kids, from drawing contests to toy raffles. On hand also will be vendors off ering everything antique-truckrelated from actual parts to truck toys and memorabilia. The event also off ers barbecue and beverage vendors. CMS is located at 379 South St. in Marlborough. |
