Credit Union robbery investigation continues Westborough - The investigation into a July 26 robbery at the Digital Federal Credit Union branch at 18 Lyman St., is continuing, Westborough Police said earlier this week. According to the police, the robber, who was described as a white male, 25 to 30 years old, 160 to 170 pounds with an average build, entered the branch just before 2 p.m. He wore a brimmed hat and sunglasses, as well as a blue and gray long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans and white sneakers. Based on interviews con- ducted at the scene and on the bank's video recording, the thief did not show a weapon, the police said. Instead, he handed a note to the teller demanding cash, with which, moments later, he fled the scene. Westborough Police Chief Alan Gordon said earlier this week that also under investigation is whether or not the individual who robbed the Digital Federal Credit Union is also connected to a series of robberies in the area, including the Marlborough Commerce Bank July 17. Gordon said he was told by Marlborough police officers investigating that robbery that their robber entered the bank at 9:11 a.m. and handed the teller a note demanding cash. The teller gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash and he ran out of the bank and headed north on Maple Street. "We're checking with other surrounding communities, too - Waltham, Wellesley and Watertown," Gordon said, "to compare the crime scenes and see if we're dealing with the same suspect." Gordon said the FBI and police departments familiar with the cases believe one person is responsible in six robberies or attempted holdups at six banks in and around Waltham. "The description of the suspect in our case is pretty similar to that of the other communities' robberies," Gordon said. In the Marlborough robbery, according to reports supplied by the Marlborough Police Department, the robber was described as white, about six feet tall, 180 to 190 pounds and in his mid-20s. He was wearing faded blue jeans, a blue V-neck sweater and a green Red Sox baseball cap. As of July 30, Gordon said the Westborough Police didn't have any physical evidence in their robbery that they could compare with other departments. "We're still processing the information that we have," Gordon said. "At this time it's still the early stages of the investigation." |
