Children's book illustrator visits for 'One Book, One Hudson'
By Angela Greiner Contributing Writer

Illustrator and author Scott Nash visits the Hudson Public Library July 25.
Hudson - The Hudson Public Library hosted a visit July 25 by illustrator Scott Nash. Nash's work includes illustrations for countless television animation projects, several children's books, and a book series that includes "The Bugliest Bug" and "Flat Stanley."

With the recent publication of "Tuff Fluff and the Missing Brain" and the completion of "Blue Jay the Pirate," Nash is now also a published children's book author.

According to Nash, he's been telling stories since childhood. He explained that his parents used to have him entertain guests with his storytelling.

"When I was a child, I loved to tell stories," Nash said.

During his visit to the library, Nash shared with the children that his inspiration for his two recent books came from a childhood love of both pirates and birds.

Nash spent nearly two hours autographing books, as well as reading several of his books and teaching children basic drawing skills. His storytelling and drawing techniques captivated the audience and stimulated countless questions from children, ranging in age from 2 to 9 years old.

Nash patiently answered the children's questions, and drew and autographed several pictures during his visit. When one child asked why a bug had gloves on, Nash admitted a weakness.

"I am not very good at drawing hands," he said.

"The Bugliest Bug" was one of the books chosen by Children's Librarian Debbie Bachman as part of the "One Book, One Hudson" program. The community reading program will continue to run through August with several other events on the schedule.
