Michael A. Horgan Northborough - Michael A. Horgan died peacefully Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, surrounded by his family, at his daughter's home in Wellesley Hills. He leaves his wife, Patricia (Carrigan) Horgan; his son, Michael Horgan, and daughter in-law, Tracy; his daughter, Deirdre Smirl, and son-in-law, Jon; his grandchildren, Connor and Fiona; his siblings, Stephen Horgan, Racina Benoit and Delores Burton; and nieces and nephews. He was also the father of Brett, who died in 2001. Born and raised in Worcester, the son of Stephen and Bridget (Daley) Horgan, he was a member of the Air National Guard and served during the Berlin crisis. He graduated from St. John's High School in Worcester and went on to receive a bachelor's degree in Economics from the College of the Holy Cross. He pursued graduate studies at Boston University and Clark University and was awarded the professional insurance designation, Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), at the National Conferment ceremonies in Atlanta. Mr. Horgan worked for the Traveler's Insurance Co. in Boston and later joined the H.J. Boule Insurance Agency in Marlborough, where he worked until his retirement. He loved traveling and enjoyed many trips to Ireland, Europe, New Zealand and Australia. An avid reader, he also loved sports and was an enthusiastic Red Sox and Patriots fan, as well as a WTAG spotter for Holy Cross football and basketball games. He also loved jogging and skiing. He was the proud papa of his twin grandchildren, Connor and Fiona, and loved taking them on outings. He loved camping and traveling throughout the United States with his family, and was active in his community serving on the School Committee, Housing Authority and the Charter Commission in Northborough. He was a member of the Holy Cross Club of Worcester and a class agent for Holy Cross Alumni. He was also a member of the Greendale Men's Club. In addition, he was an active member of Saint Bernadette's Parish. Mr. Horgan fought a courageous battle with Lewy body dementia and will be dearly missed by his family and all that knew him. A funeral Mass was held Aug. 8 from Saint Bernadette's Parish in Northborough, with burial at St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. Hays Funeral Home of Northborough directed arrangements.
