St. Mark's looks to build additional faculty housing Southborough - To better provide for some members of its faculty and their families, St. Mark's School is petitioning the town's Planning Board to build three duplexes on the school campus. The 2,200-square-foot duplexes will be constructed on land owned by the private school, near the athletic fields on the northern part of the campus, between Route 85 and School Street. The structures will be able to accommodate six professors and their families. "St. Mark's already houses several faculty members on campus, including one family in a house right near where they hope to put up the duplexes," Town Planner Vera Kolias said. "The school is just trying to provide better housing for its faculty. It's not going to aff ect the number of students on campus." The duplexes would be built near the edge of the soccer and lacrosse fields abutting Route 85. Kolias said the school is proposing some changes to the site as a result of the construction. "The plans propose building a path along the field from the houses to campus," Kolias said, "as well as a driveway off School Street to access two of the duplexes." The proposal will be discussed by the Planning Board this month. Kolias said the land is exempt from many planning regulations because it is an educational facility, but the plans will still need to be reviewed and examined for several reasons, including public safety, drainage and parking. |
