Summer notebook
      Region - Definitely the dog days of summer on the local sports scene. The next few weeks are arguably the slowest. But things will quickly pick up as fans and players look forward to the fall. With a chance for a breather, it's a good time to clear out the notebook.

      Region - With a hard-fought 9-6 win over a tenacious Southborough squad, the Shrewsbury National 10-year-old All-Star team won the Massachusetts District 5 Little League Jimmy Fund Baseball tournament, hosted late last month by the Oxford Little League.

      Shrewsbury - Back on the map - that's what the Shrewsbury American Legion Post 397's baseball program is after this summer. Post 397 rallied late, winning several games down the stretch to finish the regular season, 11-11, grabbing the final Zone 4 playoff spot on the last day of the season.
