'Field of Flags' visits Marlborough
Marlborough - On Aug. 10, (l to r) Sarah Papile, Brandi Swett and Pastor Linda Stetter and a dozen other people set up the Field of Flags, a traveling display of American flags representing this country's loss in Iraq and Afghanistan - one flag for each U.S. soldier killed. The display, which is at the First United Methodist Church of Marlborough, located at 52 Church St., will be hosted there through Labor Day.

There are currently 4,004 flags.

The public is invited to participate and to write messages in a Book of Condolence in the church prayer garden.

On Friday, Aug. 17 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., the public is invited to a Reading of Names in the church sanctuary. Every soldier killed will be honored and remembered by reading his or her name and date of death. Interested persons are welcome to attend at any time during the day to listen, pray or light candles.

On Saturday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m., all are invited to attend a prayer vigil for the 59 Massachusetts soldiers killed. This will be an ecumenical time of reflection, prayer, music and words of remembrance and comfort.
