Marlborough - The popular hiking trails at the "Grove" in Marlborough were crowded Aug. 18 as over 60 members of the community gathered for an early morning clean-up and barbecue. The group combed through the woods pulling out countless bags of trash.

Representatives came from many of the from the town's organizations, including Climate Action Network, the Conservation Committee, Lions Club, the Litter League, the Recycling Center and the Garden Club, to join in the cleanup.

Jennifer Boudrie, the founder of the Climate Action Network, was pleased to participate.

"It was more than a cleanup," she said. "It was a community success story."

The event, coordinated by Brian Palmer from the Marlborough Litter league and Trish Settles from the Marlborough Community Development Corporation, brought much-needed attention to the city-owned conservation land near Fort Meadow reservoir on Bolton Street.

Several city officials also attended the clean-up, including Mayor Nancy Stephens, Conservation Commission member Ed Clancy and Conservation Officer Priscilla Ryder.

"The weather was wonderful, the clean-up was a success, the fresh air activities and socializing were fun, and the talk given by the conservation officer was educational," Boudrie said. "We hope residents get involved with future activities to help us make Marlborough a healthier community for all of us.

"It was a full morning that left everyone feeling good."
