Northborough - Ambika Melville, 17, a student at Algonquin Regional High School, spent two weeks in July as a Landmark Volunteer at the Morgan Horse Farm and the Eddy Farm School, both in Middlebury, Vt. She is the daughter of Rejendra and Shiaman Melville of Northborough.

Landmark Volunteers, based in Sheffield, is a nonprofit summer service organization off ering high school students the chance to perform community service at nationally recognized historical, cultural and environmental or social institutions.

Ambika was a member of a team that worked clearing trails, painting and repairing horse jumps. The University of Vermont Morgan Horse Farm is dedicated to preserving the Morgan Horse, and the Eddy Farm is a nonprofit educational organization.

A member of the National Honor Society, Ambika has done previous community service. She has participated in a summer ecology program at Johns Hopkins University and two years ago traveled to Costa Rica for a month to learn about that country's culture and environment.
