Girl Scouts donate quilt to Marlborough Hospital
The large colorful quilt was the culmination of several months of activities that began after a day of volunteering at the Making Strides for Breast Cancer Walk held in Boston in October 2006. Subsequently, the Girl Scouts toured the WHC, where they learned about women's health and also had the opportunity to have a radiologist explain the reading of a mammogram. The "In the Pink" Interest Project is just one of many badges the Girl Scouts of the USA off ers teen cadet troops to work on to achieve this badge. The quilt is on display in the hospital's first floor WHC in the mammography suite, where the new digital mammography machine is now in use. "It is gratifying to see the effort and thought the troop put into this project," said Kathleen Giemza, mammogram manager for Marlborough Hospital. "You can see by looking at it, they did quite a bit of research [into] women's health and breast cancer." Troop 2734 is led by Carol Hogan and Susan McGraw, both of Hudson. |
