Boston Scientific gets permit extension
By Kate Daly Assistant Editor

Marlborough - The City Council's Finance and Public Services committees granted Boston Scientific Corp. an extension on their sewer permit at a joint meeting Aug. 27.

Finance Committee Chair Michael Ossing asked for an update on hiring plans at the company from City Assessor Anthony Trodella.

Trodella said the company plans more growth this year. He was told that a reduction of 50 employees was because of the elimination of a division that had been added and won't change the total number of employees slated for the facility, he said. The extension will not affect the city's tax increment financial (TIF) economic incentive, he said.

Boston Scientific is renovating and expanding at the former Stratus Computer complex on Boston Scientific Way. Because the sewer permit is for the easterly plant and the capacity of the line is so low, extending the permit should cause no problems, said Ronald M. LaFreniere, commissioner of Public Works.

"I strongly recommend that you grant the extension," he said.

Actual updates from Boston Scientific may not be available until the end of September, when it must file reports with the state, Trodella said.
