Players' Club to celebrate 70th anniversary

Westborough - In 1937, a group of Westborough residents decided that the community needed a amateur theater group. That decision resulted in the formation of the Westborough Players' Club (WPC) and the production of the group's first show, "The Late Christopher Bean."

Since then, the group has presented 139 productions and is currently working on its 2007- 2008 season.

"We are very proud of our theatrical history," club President Christopher Riccio said. "We are one of the oldest community theaters in the state and have never had a year without a WPC production."

To celebrate the club's 70 years in community theater, the Westborough Players' Club is hosting an adult anniversary gala Saturday Sept. 29 at the Indian Meadows Country Club in Westborough. Invitations to active adult members were mailed in early August. The club also is seeking past members to be included on its invitation list.

Anyone who has ever appeared on stage or worked backstage with the Players' Club and would like to join in the grand reunion, contact Diane Barrette at 508-898-2513.

The party ticket is $20 and includes a sit-down chicken dinner, dancing and entertainment. To reserve a ticket online or for more information, visit the club's Web site at www.westboroughplayers. com.
