Marlborough - Hillside School recently greeted one of its largest student classes to campus for the opening day of its 2007-2008 academic year.
One hundred and forty new and returning students and their families arrived at Hillside School Sept. 9 for Registration Day, the day set aside for the start of Hillside School's new school year.
Hillside faculty and staff welcomed the students and their families with helpful information to the transition back to school.
Students also received their class schedules, school calendar, advisor information and telephone lists. After readying themselves for the first day of classes the next day, students enjoyed a variety of sports and other activities throughout the afternoon.
Later, parents and guardians were welcomed to Hillside by Headmaster David Z. Beecher and other school administrators at the Parents Meeting. During the meeting, Beecher provided parents with an overview of the upcoming school year. In particular, he provided insight about ongoing construction of the Academic and Health Center, which is scheduled to open in spring of 2008, as well as such additions to the school curriculum as the Health and Wellness program and the Peace Initiatives course.
"Through one student at a time, one year at a time, we will teach how true strength can only be found through peace," Beecher said about the Peace Initiatives course, which will educate students about how they can become advocates for a peaceful society.
The meeting was followed by a reception, pool party and barbecue.
The event was Hillside School's 107th opening day, its 81st opening day in Marlborough.
