Weekly sports roundup Region - The Shrewsbury Youth Hockey Association will be holding Learn to Skate and Learn to Play Hockey clinics beginning next month. Registration for the clinics will be held Saturday Oct. 6 from 8 to 10 a.m., and Tuesday Oct. 9 from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Buff one Rink, located on Lake Avenue in Worcester. Also, for the first time, registration forms are available online, simply by logging onto www.syha.net. For the Learn to Skate registration form, go to that section. For the Learn to Play Hockey registration form, go to the House League section of the Web site. Send completed forms with payment to the SYHA, Post Office Box 214, Shrewsbury, MA 01545, noting on the envelope which program is being registered for. Mail-in registration for the Learn to Skate program must be received by Monday Oct. 1, for the Learn to Play Hockey program the deadline is Monday Oct. 15. The Learn to Skate program employs professional skating instructors to teach children ages 4 through 17 how to skate. There is no hockey instruction. Sessions are held Sunday nights from 6 to 6:50 p.m. at Buff one Rink. Only 70 skaters per session are allowed: the first 70 signed up will be enrolled in the session, others will be wait-listed. Session I runs from Oct. 21 to Dec. 16, Session II is Jan. 6, 2008, to Feb. 24, 2008, and Session III is March 2 to April 27, 2008. Cost is $135 for the first session attended and $110 for each additional session. The entrance fee is due at registration. Only checks will be accepted. The Learn to Play Hockey program teaches basic hockey skills to children ages 4 through 7, and includes skating and hockey skills instruction and hockey games. No prior skating or hockey experience is required. A maximum of 72 players will be allowed in the program, and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Others, if interested, will be wait-listed. Sessions will be held on Saturdays beginning at 9 a.m., and Sundays beginning at 8:15 a.m., also at Buffone Rink, and will run from Saturday Nov. 3 through Sunday Feb. 24, 2008. Hudson Catholic football in win column Brothers Spencer and Jeremy Williams led the Green Wave to a 26-24 win over St. Clement's, a come-from-behind victory that improved Hudson Catholic (HC) to 1-1 overall. HC trailed, 16-6, at halftime. Spencer Williams, who lines up at quarterback, got the Green Wave's scoring started with a 60-yard, second-quarter scoring jaunt. Running back Jeremy Williams scored on runs of six and 30 yards in the third quarter to pull the Green Wave to within six, 24-18. Spencer Williams tied the game with a 30-yard, fourthquarter touchdown run and then hit his brother Jeremy with the ensuing conversion pass for the winning points.
