City receives funds for economic development
Marlborough 2010 is a publicprivate partnership created to foster economic development, stimulate projects that improve the quality of life for city residents, enhance the perceived image of Marlborough, and revitalize and redevelop neglected city neighborhoods. As an example of the compa- ny's commitment to the city, on Sept. 21, Raytheon Vice President and General Manager Jerry Powlen presented a check for $25,000 to Stevens and Riordan at City Hall. The sum represents the largest investment to the Marlborough 2010 Corporation to date. "Marlborough 2010 deeply appreciates the civic commitment Raytheon continues to make to the city of Marlborough, where it has a large presence," Riordan said. "This contribution will go a long way toward advancing the mission of 2010 to enhance the economic development of the city. Mayor Stevens, former Mayor Hogan and I greatly appreciate this additional investment that Raytheon has made in its continued support of the community." Marlborough 2010 is entering its second year of operation and has garnered a $10 million dollar state infrastructure grant for the city's westerly wastewater treatment plant, and secured another $150,000 in funding for the city commercial and industrial expedited permitting program. "Raytheon is an important sector of both Marlborough's and Massachusetts's 21st century economy," Riordan said. "They are the preeminent firm in the Massachusetts Defense Technology Initiative, and their presence in Marlborough translates into good jobs, good wages, exciting technology and a measurable stimulus to our local economy. "We look forward to Raytheon's leadership on our board. Their commitment to Marlborough 2010 sends a signal to Marlborough's other large employers and emerging industries that [Marlborough] 2010 is credible, capable and determined to realize the vision of a prosperous city on a growth trajectory." |
