Information optout available for parents
By Melissa Muntz Community Reporter

Shrewsbury - If your high school senior has started receiving a lot of mailings from the U.S. military, you're not alone.

All school districts are obligated to release student names, addresses and phone numbers to military recruiters when asked, under the No Child Left Behind legislation of 2001. However, parents do have the right to opt out of this program if they do not wish to have their child's information released.

Anyone who would prefer to keep a child's information private must submit an optout form to the Shrewsbury High School Guidance office no later than Monday Oct. 1. The form can be found online at www.shrewsbury-ma.gov/ schools/SHS/academics/guidance/ index.html.
