Destination Imagination team thanks community for support

To the Editor:

The Algonquin Regional High School (ARHS) Destination Imagination (DI) Team extends its thanks to the local community which supported us in our recent trip to the DI Globals Tournament, held at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville at the end of May, 2007. (DI is a creative problem-solving program which encourages creativity, teamwork, and "out-of-the-box thinking.") At this event, the ARHS DI Team was one of 990 worldwide teams competing for Global recognition. We believe this to be a first for ARHS.

A big thank-you is extended to our major donor, the Robert E. Melican Middle School PTO, and to other kind sponsors: Marguerite E. Peaslee School PTO, Affordable Interior Systems Inc. of Hudson, Tony's Grandparents, Brossi Girls of Upton, Falkowski Family, Tim Kneeland, Aunt Julia, Hello Dolly, Smith-Tsay- Hsu family, Edda "Nona" Brossi, Patricia Pfeifer, DMD, Nancy Berglund, JAMERIC Ltd., Nelson Clan, Westboro Orthodontic Associates, Digital Credit Union of Marlboro, and a generous Anonymous Donor.

A raffle for Red Sox tickets also assisted in making this trip possible; we are especially grateful to Mr. Tom Lowe of Lowe's Variety in Northboro for his willingness to allow us to sell our tickets in front of his store, and to the many who purchased tickets from us. Mr. Don Holm, Principal of Peaslee School in Northboro, where many of us attended elementary school, is also thanked for his assistance with this fundraiser.

Mr. Steve Brossi and Mrs. Susan Carrigan, our team managers for several years now, deserve special recognition for their time and talent. Their commitment this year extended from practices, to Regional, to State, to Global competition. Mrs. Debby Brossi coordinated our Global experience - her organization skills were most appreciated. And thanks to our parents, who cheered us on at every competition.

The ARHS DI team deeply appreciates the generous support our sponsors and community. Representing Northboro, as well as Massachusetts, and the USA, in Globals has been both an honor and highlight of our DI and ARHS years.

Sincerely, The ARHS DI Team: Tony Brossi, Chris Carrigan, Mark Perreault, Andrew Young, Harrison Reed, David Jones, and Pat Rutan Northborough

'Taste' organizers call event 'huge success'

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Taste of Northborough Committee, I would like to thank everyone who assisted us at this year's event to benefit the Northborough Food Pantry. Once again, the Taste was a huge success due to the numerous businesses, town departments, volunteers and community residents who came out to support the Food Pantry.

The Taste would not be the success it is without the tremendous support of the local food vendors who generously donate their food, staff and time. We want to thank the new participants, Korean BBQ Kitchen, the Texas BBQ Co. and Nicky D's Donuts for participating this year as well as the following previous participants: Armeno Coffee Roasters, Lil M's Mart, Chef du Jour, Memories Bakery, Monti's Pizza Plus, Tom's Gourmet Marketplace, Tougas, Berberian and Davidian Farms, and Festive Breads. Attendees enjoyed sampling many new and exciting foods this year.

We also want to thank all the local businesses, town departments and community committees who so generously "dressed teddy bears" for our silent auction. Thanks also to Yama Zakura, Captain Jud's, Romaine's of Northborough, Bertucci's and Guiseppe's Grille for donating gift certificates. Special thanks to Polar Corporation, BJ's Wholesale Club, Expose Signs, Curry Printing, Gillis Family Farm Center and Nestle Corporation for your contributions and support. The event could not be held without the wonderful support of Pat Montimurro, Principal of the Melican Middle School, who provides the school and custodial staff for our event.

Finally, thanks to the Taste of Northborough Committee, the Food Pantry volunteers, the Algonquin and St. John's students, the Algonquin Jazz Ensemble, the parade marchers and most importantly, the attendees who support this wonderful community event. The Taste is truly a special event for everyone who participates in it in some way. The Northborough Food Pantry is deeply appreciative of all everyone does to make this fundraiser the profitable and successful event it is.

Ellen C. Carlucci Chairperson, Taste of Northborough Committee Northborough 'Leaders of Tomorrow' thank community

To all Shrewsbury residents,

I wanted to convey our appreciation to all of the people of Shrewsbury who braved the rain and came out for our Candlelight Vigil on 9/11.

The hundreds of people there helped us to show the world that we have not forgotten the tragic events of years ago. As we stood there to honor their memory, and to give thanks to our brave soldiers fighting overseas, we truly came together as a community. Special thanks go out to our elected officials who came out to speak, Senator Augustus, Representative Polito, and Selectman McCaff rey, as well as our two singers Kristin Cifelli and Megan Murphy. Thanks also to our police department for making sure all went smoothly and to the wonderful townspeople who spent all week spreading the word.

Our group, the Leaders of Tomorrow, is made up of 7th and 8th grade Shrewsbury students. Our mission is to work throughout the year on events that will benefit those around us. Doing so will make our community a better place for all, and show the world that our generation stands ready to do our part to create positive change throughout the commonwealth.

In the next month, we're looking forward to working on our next project, which will be to collect candy, cards letters from school children, and small gifts for 2 companies of servicemen that we are "adopting" who are currently serving in Iraq. Keep your eyes out for flyers and posters around Shrewsbury for information regarding this project, as well drop off locations for donations.

Regards, Sam Levine, President Leaders of Tomorrow Shrewsbury Letters
