Keeping an optimistic attitude

Westborough - In an industry inundated with real estate companies, Andrew Abu Realty, owned by Andrew Abu, exemplifies a company that not only off ers more to its clients, but also is unique.

While he sees some cynicism in the market right now, Abu said he also sees a great deal to be positive about.

"One of the big things that I hold on to is a benchmark to realize that there are great successes in this market. We have under agreement and sold approximately $50 million, which is the same as last year," he said. "Every day someone is selling their house, someone is moving to their new job or community, or upgrading and even downsizing."

Abu's team expects a high level of success.

"We have a great attitude and manage to stay positive and I truly believe this is one of the reasons our business is so strong," Abu said. "We approach things from a more positive spin. We pride ourselves on counseling people, truly counseling them not just trying to list and sell properties."

Almost 90 percent of the company's business comes through referrals, which far exceeds the industry's average. Abu and his team know that given their reputation and the quality of service they off er, people will sell with them and pass their name on.

Abu has a strong office staff , with a full-time listing manager and transaction manager, as well as six fulltime agents. Each member brings something unique to the team.

"I try to keep my brokers in their core competency," Abu said. "I know my brokers are best at selling and listing houses. We have a full-time bookkeeper and even a technology expert. Having such a strong back office removes the need for the agents to focus on smaller details that we have people working on for us and with us. When I'm freed up to not worry about brochures being made, then I can really focus on my clients."

The team meets weekly to discuss every transaction and listing, allowing individuals with diff ering opinions and strengths to work with together as a true team.

In such a dynamic business, Abu remains dedicated to finding positive solutions.

"There are so many people putting their lives on hold waiting for the market to get better with some specific price tag in mind that they are hoping to achieve," Abu said. "I really think that people have to be focused on the fact that being in the real estate market is a continuum and you may have to take what is considered to be a loss to allow you to move to the next step or place. It's crazy to think that in the scheme of your life some wonderful opportunities are missed because of this."
