Election Day will off er bulky ballot Marlborough - Tuesday Nov. 6 will be an Election Day that offers Marlborough residents two candidates for mayor, seven for four at-large City Council seats, races in four of seven wards, and seven candidates for three School Committee seats. Despite the number of candidates seeking office, this is a rare year in that there were no preliminary races, according to Celeste Wright, election head clerk in the election division. "Usually we have preliminaries," she said, especially with so many candidates. The candidates, though, broke out into individual races in such a way that no preliminary races were needed to narrow the fields. In one way, that's a good thing, Wright said, since it saves the city money. One city-wide preliminary election costs as much as a regular election, she said, up to $10,000. The candidates Mayor Nancy Stevens is seeking her second two-year term. Patrick Hogan, a police officer and president of the local patrolman's union, is challenging her. City Council incumbents Steven Levy, Michael Ossing, Patricia Pope and Arthur Vigeant face Jennifer Boudrie, James Joyce and Sean Navin for the four at-large seats. The top four vote-getters will win the two-year terms. In Ward 1, Joseph Delano Jr. is running unopposed. While he is new to the City Council, he is not new to city politics. He is leaving his seat on the School Committee to run unopposed for Ward 1 councilor. Ward 2 incumbent City Councilor Paul Ferro faces Danielle Gregoire. Incumbent City Councilor Scott Schafer faces Paul Broduer in Ward 3. In Ward 4, incumbent City Councilor Peter Juaire will face Steven Kerrigan. Incumbents in Wards 5 and 6, City Councilors Maura Navin Wheeler and Edward Clancy, are running unopposed. Newcomers Ralph Belmore and Donald Landers will face off for the Ward 7 council seat. The School Committee has three seats up for election. Vying for the four-year terms are incumbents Kathleen Robey and Cosmo Valente and challengers Monica Burnett, Margaret Dwyer and Katherine Hennessy. The top three vote-getters will earn the seats. Incumbent Joseph Valarioti is running unopposed for the Assabet Valley Regional High School seat, also a four-year term. Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 6. Poll locations are as follows: Wards 1 and 2 vote at the Kane School, 520 Farm Road; Ward 3 Precinct 1 and Ward 5 Precinct 2 vote at the Masonic Hall, 140 Main St.; Ward 3 Precinct 2 votes at Richer School, 80 Foley Road; Ward 4 votes at the Marlborough Boys & Girls Club, 169 Pleasant St.; Ward 5 Precinct 1 votes at the Senior Center, 250 Main St.; Ward 6 votes at the Middle School library, 25 Union St.; and Ward 7 votes at Hildreth School, 85 Sawin St. Editor's note: The Community Advocate has offered all candidates in competitive races the opportunity to run a brief statement and photograph.
