Northborough - Dr. Karen Moriarty's practice focuses on corrective and wellness chiropractic care. Often her patients choose to continue their care beyond the relief of symptoms so they can recapture their optimal health by improving the function of their nervous system.

"During that time frame, our patients are provided with a prescribed exercise program, an overview of good nutritional habits and an opportunity to participate in educational workshops to include cardiovascular health, immunology, breast health and improve brain function," Moriarty said.

The center also off ers the services of a licensed massage therapist, Judy Shields, and patients have the opportunity to purchase organic whole food supplements. A Web site has been created, where patients can communicate with the staff at the center and can sign up to receive email regarding current health information and upcoming events in the office.

"This is an easy way for patients to refer their friends and family," Moriarty said. "New patients can download their intake paperwork and conveniently do it at home at their convenience before they come in for their first visit."

The office itself was designed with nature in mind. There was a conscious effort to bring the outdoors inside. The colors are earth tones and create an open, comfortable, soothing environment.

"This creates a sense of community among patients," Moriarty said. "We also have a separate room for younger patients to enjoy while waiting for their own appointments or for their parents who are getting adjusted. There are toys, books and puzzles to keep them entertained. The hard part is when it's time to leave."

Upcoming events include the "Brain Gym" Workshop Oct. 11; Dr. Leon Drucker, holistic nutritional consultant Oct. 16; "Optimum Breast Health, Your Great- est Defense Against Breast Cancer" Oct. 24; and Moriarty's "Nutritional Workshop" Nov. 7. All of these events are held at the office and those interested are encouraged to reserve seating. Events run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

"The purpose of our workshops is to give patients and their guests an opportunity to learn about an aspect of health care that is often difficult to discover on your own," Moriarty said. "As a chiropractor, I'm exposed to many diff erent avenues of very successful holistic specialties. Over the past 24 years, I have created a very successful network for myself and like-minded practitioners who view the body as a whole. This involves the physical, chemical and the emotional/spiritual aspects of life."

Moriarty and her staff are committed to addressing the needs of their patients.

"I have learned that the human body is capable of recovering from the most devastating illness and injuries when healing is brought about from the inside out," Moriarty said.
