Dr. Todd M. Savarese, 55

Northborough - Dr. Todd M. Savarese, 55, of Thaddeus Mason Road, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007 in UMass Memorial Healthcare (University Campus) after being stricken ill at home.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Dr. Diane (Farineau) Savarese; his sons, Matthew and Andrew Savarese; his mother, Gladys (Brody) Savarese; his siblings, Steve Savarese and Andrea Barreiro; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born in Huntington, Long Island, the son of Gladys and the late George Savarese, he lived the past 14 years in Northborough. He attended high school in Colonia, N.J. and received his B.S. in biology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1973 and his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Brown University in 1980.

Dr. Savarese was an Associate Professor of Research in Cancer Biology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. Prior to this, he taught for many years as the Upjohn Assistant Professor of Medical Science at Brown University.

He was devoted to and beloved by his wife and children. He was active in the Middlesex County 4-H Fife and Drum Corps, and was co-director of the Corps. An avid history buff , he was also a photographer, musician, Patriots fan, enthusiast of 20th century literature and a member of Saint Rose of Lima Church in Northborough.

A funeral mass was held Oct. 10 from Saint Rose of Lima Church, with burial at Howard Street Cemetery. Hays Funeral Home of Northborough directed arrangements.
