Local high schools' field hockey, soccer, golf, cross country results

Region - With a 2-0 win over Wachusett Regional and a 1-1 tie with Fitchburg High, the Shrewsbury High field hockey team improved to 7-0-4 overall.

Erin Crosson leads the Colonials with 9 goals while Kathryn Nelson is the team's leading scorer with eight goals and 6 assists, good for 14 points.

Shrewsbury goalie Kim Ryan has allowed just six goals in eight games.

The Westborough High field hockey team was also 1-0-1 during the week of Oct. 1-5, improving to 6-1-2 overall.

Sarah Becque leads the Rangers in scoring with two goals and eight assists. Westborough goaltender Katherine Nagengast has allowed five goals in nine games and has posted five shutouts.

Marlborough is 4-3-3 at the season's halfway point while Algonquin Regional is 3-4-3 and Hudson 4-3-5.

Boys soccer

With wins over Clinton, Hudson Catholic and Monty Tech between Oct. 1-5, Assabet Valley improved its record to 7-1-1. Leading the way during the 3-0 week was Hoiry Arroyo, the four goals he scored in the three games giving him 12 for the season.

St. John's was 2-0 during the same span to improve to 10-1. Chris Stoker had a pair of goals during the week, giving him seven for the season - to go along with 6 assists. Charlie Long had a pair of goals, giving him six for the season. Long also has five assists. Tyler Uppstrom scored three times in the three games and entered the week with five goals on the season.

Westborough had a pair of wins from Oct. 1-5 to improve to 6-4-1. Algonquin Regional was 1-0-1 during the week and is 5-0-2 on the season. Marlborough entered play this week with a 5-1-1 mark, Shrewsbury with a 3-3-2 record, Hudson with a 4-3-3 mark.

Girls soccer

Shrewsbury went 2-0 between Oct. 1-5, defeating Fitchburg High and Algonquin Regional, to improve to 7-1-1. Nicola D'Erico scored a goal in the win over Algonquin, giving her a team- and league-leading nine on the season.

Westborough entered play this week 7-1-2, Marlborough 6-1-1, Assabet Valley 4-1-3 and Hudson 6-3.

Golf

St. John's and Hudson high schools entered the week with their hopes for undefeated season still alive. The Pioneers brought a 14-0 mark into play this week, teeing it up against St. Bernard's Oct. 3. The Hawks put their 12-0 record on the line against Ayer High Oct. 1.

Westborough is 10-2-1 so far this season, Shrewsbury is 9-3, Algonquin 8-5 and Marlborough 8-5-1.

Boys cross country

St. John's (8-0), Shrewsbury (5-0) and Westborough (4-0) all won their meets during Oct. 1-5 to enter this weeks with unblemished records.

Hudson High entered the week 6-1, Marlborough 2-1 Assabet Valley 3-2 and Algonquin 3-3.

Girls cross country

Algonquin Regional stayed perfect on the season, improving to 6-0. Hudson entered the week 8-1, Marlborough 3-1 and Shrewsbury 3-2.
