Comprehensive care now in Westborough

Westborough - Advanced Dental, a comprehensive dental care facility, recently joined the Westborough community. In its newly renovated space, Dr. Mansour Moheban, his son Dr. David Moheban, his wife, Louise Moheban, and the rest of his trained staff off er patients a full range of services to include operative dentistry, endodontics (root canal therapy), periodontics and implant dentistry as well as cosmetic dentistry.

When Dr. Mansour Moheban finished dental school at the University of Pennsylvania in 1969, he did a year of dental internship at Worcester Memorial. He then went back to school for two years to obtain a certificate in the specialty of periodontics.

He began practicing dentistry in Northborough in 1979 and liked the concept of having all aspects of dentistry under one roof. Since 1986, he has provided his patients with implant dentistry. Both Dr. Mansour Moheban and his wife have previous teaching experience. Louise is a registered dental hygienist.

"Implant dentistry has gone through major changes in the past five or 10 years where it has become a major discipline of dentistry," Dr. Mansour Moheban said. "There have been great developments in actually replacing lost teeth without endangering other teeth in a patient's mouth."

He and his son David are practicing together in the new office as well as continuing at the Northborough practice. His son Daniel is a pediatric dentist planning to establish his own practice in Massachusetts. His other son, Alexander, is a senior in dental school and plans to become an oral surgeon.

"What makes this practice so unique is the fact that I have the specialty to provide my patients with all of these services. Although I am a periodontist as well, I have decided that I'm not going to limit my practice just to periodontics," Dr. Mansour Moheban said. "My services are always with recognition of the importance of maintaining healthy teeth and gums and all of the supporting structures."

Having opened in Westborough six months ago, Advanced Dental has started a community-wide campaign informing their potential patient-clients that they are here. They have chosen the name "Advanced Dental Group" because they offer many advances in dentistry that are available today.

"We are always attending major continuing education seminars to inform ourselves and learn the latest techniques available today," Dr. Mansour Moheban said. "As a matter of fact, this month I'll be attending a seminar in Las Vegas on advanced placement of implants in people that don't have enough supporting bone to place them in who need some sort of bone augmentation or transplant to accomplish that."

One of the misconceptions that Dr. Mansour Moheban noted was that some people don't look at dentists as participants in maintaining general health.

"Our patients are informed of the relationship between dental health and general health particularly referring to periodontal disease and heart disease. In order to enjoy systemic health, you need to start with total oral health," he said. "We also provide oral cancer screening."

The best advice that Dr. Mansour Moheban follows is to listen to his patients to see what they want so that he can try to meet their expectations.

The practice welcomes new patients to the office, which can be reached seven days a week and is open for emergencies.
