Working out for a good cause Shrewsbury - People working out at Shrewsbury Health & Racquet Club Oct. 21 weren't only benefiting their bodies, they were also helping to raise money for sick children across the country. The gym's "Step, Spin and Stretch for St. Jude's" event raised money for the hospital, which specializes in providing care to children with cancer and other lifethreatening illnesses. Club General Manager John Agoglia said the event was a perfect way to help people improve not only their bodies, but their minds and souls as well. "It gives people a chance to be involved with the class, but it also makes them feel better just knowing that they're giving to a good cause," Agoglia said. A $10 donation to St. Jude's Hospital bought entry to one's choice of classes being held at the gym, either spinning, step aerobics or yoga. But students in these classes weren't the only ones who made a contribution that day. Shrewsbury Health & Racquet Club staff and instructors all donated their pay for that day to St. Jude's Children's Hospital as well. "It's important for people to know that we're not just another chain, that we want to give back and that we really are part of a community here," Agoglia said. This was the first time the club had hosted the "Step, Spin and Stretch for St. Jude's" fund-raiser, but Agoglia said he's hoping to make it a yearly event. |
