Keamy Eye & Laser Centre
Ophthalmology, refractive surgery and more
By Nance Ebert Contributing Writer

Dr. Jean E. Keamy

Westborough - Dr. Jean E. Keamy is a board-certified ophthalmologist who owns her own practice, performing refractive, cataract and aesthetic surgery and providing her patients with the convenience of a retail optical shop.

Since starting her practice three years ago, Dr. Keamy has watched her business continue to grow. It is not uncommon for her to begin her day early in the morning and work well into the evening hours. She has abundance of energy and besides holding a medical degree, she has an MBA and is a clinical instructor at Tufts University/New England Medical Center.

"I take great care of my patients and treat them like I would family. My job is very personal and I love it. It's great to be a woman and know that I started my own business," Dr. Keamy said. "I employ three terrific people."

There are three focuses to the practice. The first is general ophthalmology and includes routine eye exams, glaucoma, cataracts, dry eye ordinary diseases of the eye. The second focus is refractive surgery, which means decreasing the patient's dependency on glasses. All laser surgery is conveniently done in her office.

"I'm not just a LASIK surgeon, but I do all forms of refractive surgery to decrease your dependency on glasses. That includes LASIK surgery, custom LASIK surgery and NearVision CK [Conductive Keritoplasty surgery]. We can make incisions on the cornea to get rid of astigmatism after cataract surgery," Dr. Keamy said. "I'm also probably one of the only cataract surgeons in the area that can put in one of the new, revolutionary lenses that are called Multifocus or Presbyopic implants."

Another new implant Dr. Keamy uses is called the TORIC. This is for a patient who is having cataract surgery who also has astigmatism. These patients won't need glasses for distance after this surgery.

Housed within the office is also Dr. Keamy's eye plastics business. In addition, she offers her patients options for skin wrinkling to include BOTOX Cosmetic, Radiesse and Juvederm.

"Also referred to as Aesthetics or Ocular plastics, this includes cosmetic eyelid surgery for excess skin above and below the eye. I perform functional eyelid surgery for older patients whose eyelids droop and they cannot see because their eyelids are getting heavy or when their eyelids turn out and they get something called an ectropin, which causes them to get really dry eyes. I'm able to correct that," she said.

These procedures are done at a surgery center. Dr. Keamy is on staff at UMass, Worcester Medical Center, Tufts, New England Medical Center and Surgi-Site Boston, which is in Waltham.

"The nice thing about that site in Waltham is that my patients get picked up in a limousine. The patients love this and it is at no cost to them," Dr. Keamy said.

One of her patients who recently underwent LASIK surgery in both eyes is Jenn Roche. She was more than pleased with her results.

"It's like looking through new eyes," she said. "The first time I took off the protective goggles, I gasped. This is what the world really looks like."

The retail optical shop is off ered as a convenience to Dr. Keamy's patients. There is a wide range of frames available.

The center is located at 24 Lyman Street, Suite 130. The phone number is 508-836- USEE (8733), and the Web site is at www.seemedrkeamy. com. Editor's Note: the preceding is not an endorsement and is presented for informational purposes only.
