Small Works' opens Nov. 8

Stroke, osteoporosis screenings Nov. 27

Residents living in and around Shrewsbury can be screened to reduce their risk of having a stroke or a serious bone fracture Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Shrewsbury Council on Aging. The screenings, held by Life Line Screening, are fast, painless and low cost. Appointments start at 9 a.m. and pre-registration is required. Bay State All Stars offers free trial class

A free trial class will be offered during November at Bay State All Stars, whose professional and certified coaches produce national champion cheer and dance teams. In addition, new Pop Warner teams are starting for ages 4-8 and 9-14, tumble and stretch classes are ongoing, and the dance team is still accepting members. Cruise Night to benefit Akiruno program

Wayside Racquet Club and Fresh Pond Travel have been joined by Norwegian Caribbean Cruise Line to raise funds for Marlborough Middle School's Akurino City Cultural Exchange Program, which arranges and subsidizes student exchanges between Marlborough students and Japanese students. The opening event will be a cruise night Wednesday, Nov. 7, from 7-9 p.m., at Wayside Racquet, featuring videos of the NCL cruise ships and destinations, as well as refreshments and a brief talk by NCL district representative Kathy Hall. Darren McLaughlin, manager of Wayside Racquet Club, will also talk about the student exchange program. A feature of the evening will be the distribution of a number of gifts from the cruise lines, as well as the awarding of a totally free cruise for two to the Bahamas. Admission is a tax deductible $5 per person, with all proceeds going to the charity fund. Wayside Racquet Club is located at 80 Broadmeadow Rd. in Marlborough, and can be visited at www.wayside.net.

Toomey launches 'Ladies Who Launch'
