There is no need for 'All the King's Horses & All the King's Men'
By Nancy Russell Vice President Select GMAC Real Estate

We all know the words to the famous nursery rhyme;

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.

All the king's horses and all the king's men

Couldn't put Humpty together again.

It is believed that Humpty was analogous to the king or those in power. The fact that Humpty was an egg is not exactly stated in the original publishing in the early 1800s. I suspect that this was added later to add fragility and poke fun of those in authority as many nursery rhymes do. I thought that this was appropriate after listening to a major network news anchor wondering aloud if real estate would ever be a good investment again. The news anchor was in the camp that real estate was "broken" and like Humpty Dumpty could not be put back together again.

We at Select GMAC understand that Real Estate is the most powerful investment you will make. It is woven into the fabric of our lives. As Financial Guru Suze Orman is often quoted, "Owning a home is a keystone of wealth ... both financial affluence and emotional security." In the short term, all financial markets experiences ups and downs, but real estate has shown tremendous growth over the last 50 years. By listening to the Doom-and-Gloomers, you would not believe that in Massachusetts real estate value has experienced a 1,500+ percent increase since 1968 based on MLS data!

Okay, 50 years is a long time, so let's take a look at more recent data. In the last 15 years, the time in which I have been selling real estate, the percent increase seen in Massachusetts is greater than 107 percent. And if you look the period between 2001 and 2006, the percent increase in real estate is greater than 6.4 percent.

Yes, we all know that real estate began a downward trend a few years ago. From 2005 through 2006, Massachusetts single-family homes and condominiums on average saw a 15 percent decrease, again based on MLS data. In fact, this is the third time there has been a correction in the last 50 years. If you had listened to the "experts" during each correction you would have missed what is undoubtedly the best investment opportunity you could have made on the way to financial independence.

I will tell you something else that's not included in the data. And that is, there are individuals who that experienced greater than the average growth and were cushioned against the most recent correction. How and why? The Team at Select GMAC understands that once you've made the decision to buy or sell a home, it usually means you will have to borrow the largest amount of money you have ever borrowed to purchase something or reinvest an even larger sum of money. We are not focused on one individual transaction, but rather on the series of transactions that shapes the story of your financial growth in real estate. Like the other market corrections, we are currently poised for another growth period.

The Select GMAC Team understands that the real estate market is not a fragile egg, but is rather a financial market that experiences growth and markets corrections. There is no need for, "All the king's horses and all the king's men." By selecting the right Strategic Partner, we will guide you along the path and be a part of your life by helping make today's transaction a step in the journey of your real estate plan for all of your tomorrows.
