Health Forum organized for Portuguesespeaking community
By Angela Greiner Contributing Writer

Hudson - Members of the International Dance Club at Hudson High School are preparing to entertain the elderly Portuguese community in the Metrowest area at a Health Forum Wednesday Nov. 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The forum is an opportunity for elderly Portuguese-speaking community members to learn about the intricacies of Medicare and coordinating their medical issues.

The event will be held at the Portuguese Club, 13 Port St. in Hudson. The goal of the event is to help Portuguese-speaking residents review healthcare options and prescription coverage before the annual open enrollment begins Thursday Nov. 15.

Janice Long is the director of the Hudson Senior Center.

"People need to understand what their choices are so they can choose the right coverage," she said.

With a third of Hudson's population Portuguese, Dennis Frias, the director of the International Dance Club, is pleased that his students are going to perform traditional cultural dances for the seniors in the community.

"It is important that the older generation sees that the younger generation is still honoring the traditions that are brought in from Portugal," Frias said.

Transportation to the event is being provided from Marlborough, Hudson, Framingham and Milford to the forum, which will also feature a free continental breakfast and buffet lunch.

For more information or to pre-register, call Anna at the Hudson Senior Center at 978- 568-9638 or Ana Christina at the Marlborough Senior Center at 508-485-6492.
