Westborough, Shrewsbury, Hudson win league titles in field hockey
By Ken Powers Contributing Writer

Region - It's been quite a year for the Westborough High field hockey team.

The Rangers entered the week in the midst of the Central Mass. Division 1 Tournament, in which they were the top seed, thanks to a 13-1-2 regular season, which included winning the Mid-Wach B league title. They upped that record to 15-1-2 with a firstround win over Gardner, 3-0, and a quarterfinal victory over Shepherd Hill.

Senior midfielder Sarah Becque, despite missing a portion of the season due to injury, leads Westborough in scoring, with seven goals and 19 assists. Karly Murphy is the Rangers' leading goal-scorer with 16 goals, to go along with three assists. Ashley Ertel has record 10 points, on one goal and nine assists.

Shrewsbury, 13-2-4 overall and Mid-Wach A champs, is the No. 3 seed in the Division 1 tournament. The Colonials have advanced to the quarterfinal round with wins over Auburn and Wachusett.

Kathryn Nelson leads Shrewsbury in scoring, with 14 goals and eight assists. Alyssa Ineson has added seven goals and six assists and Erin Crosson has chipped in 11 goals and an assist.

Hudson, 8-6-5 overall, also had a fine season, winning the Mid-Wach C league title and being seeded 12th in the Division 1 tournament. The league championship was the Hawks' first in nearly 30 years.

Steph Pertarb led Hudson in scoring, with seven goals and an assists, while Bekka Mongeau added four goals and two assists.
