Shrewsbury - Imagine their surprise when members of the Shrewsbury Historical Society got the word that their long sequestered copy of the Declaration of Independence drew nearly $700,000 at auction recently. Although members knew it was valuable, their research led them to believe it would sell for under $100,000. After paying auction fees, society members intend to deposit the windfall and use interest earned to help fund maintenance projects.
