Parks, Recreation opens winter registration

Shrewsbury - The Shrewsbury Parks and Recreation Department is now holding registration for winter programs that cater to children, teens, adults and seniors.

Shrewsbury Senior programs include Senior League Bowling, Senior Painting in their medium of choice, and Senior Fitness and Nutrition, which will include exercise and education about improving health through healthy eating and flexibility and strength training.

There are half a dozen programs for adults to choose from this season. The winter off erings include Co-Ed Informal Volleyball, Men's Informal Basketball, and Tai Chi and Chi Gong, which teach self-defense maneuvers designed to develop the internal and external strength of participants.

The department also off ers adults classes in Beginner Yoga, Intermediate Yoga and Jazzercise. Although Jazzercise falls under the title of adult program, children 13 and older may participate as long as they attend the class with a parent.

Children and teenagers can choose from a mix of creative and athletic programs, including Teen Karate, Tae Kwon Do for Beginners, Cheertastic cheerleading class, Claytime Pottery Painting, Creative Art and Creative Claybuilding.

The winter catalog also has programs for toddler and preschool-age children, including gymnastics for fourand five-year-olds, All By Myself, which is a structured independent play and learning program open to toilettrained children between three and five years old, and Just You and Me, a program that off ers games, crafts and music activities to parents and toddlers between two and three years old.

The department also holds programs throughout the year for children and adults with Special Needs. This season, the department is off ering Recreational Bowling, a practice-only program that may or may not participate in the 2008 Special Olympics.
