Varsity blues

Marlborough - With a policy subcommittee recommending a ban on eighth-graders playing varsity sports, the Marlborough School Committee voted, 5-2, in support of the recommendation. School Committee members who were in support of the ban concluded that eighth-graders are not emotionally mature enough to handle competition at the varsity level, while those opposed thought otherwise. Opponents contended that there were enough checks and balances in place if the player, the coaches and the parents all approved of having the eighth-grader on the team.
