School Department to ask for $160,000 for repairs
      Westborough - At Town Meeting in May, the School Department will present an article requesting the allocation of $160,000 for repairs to four schools in town. Superintendent Anne Towle presented the proposal, part of the Capital Improvement Plan for the district, to the School Committee at its Jan. 16 meeting. The committee unanimously approved Towle's recommendation.

      Shrewsbury - Spring Street School secondgraders get a chance to meet a screech owl during a presentation last month. Jim Parks, a licensed wildlife rehabilitator from Wingmasters, brought four owls to the school for his presentation about birds of prey.

Injured soldier thanks students for support
      Shrewsbury - Army Sgt. Jillian Hayes visited with students at Paton Elementary School Jan. 3, thanking them for the cards they sent her while she was in the hospital being treated for wounds sustained in Iraq. Her husband, Brian Hayes, accompanied her to the school.

'March Madness Raffle' to be held for 'Dollars for Scholars'
      Marlborough - Members of Citizen's Scholarship Foundation (CSF) of Marlborough are selling "March Madness" calendars. This year the calendars will raffle off four Red Sox tickets, four Patriots tickets and two Celtics tickets, a Wii, as well as many cash prizes.

Marlborough Public Schools holding preschool registration
      Marlborough - Preschool registration for Marlborough Public Schools Early Childhood Center will be Wednesday and Thursday Feb. 6 and 7 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the District Education Center, 17 Washington St. To register a child, you must be a resident of Marlborough. To register a child for PreK-3, the child must be 2 years and 9 months by Aug. 31, 2008.
