Committee hears about Special Ed costs, fees
      Shrewsbury - The nearly double-digit increase to the school budget and parent fees were among the top concerns brought up at a School Committee public hearing Feb. 6. The School Department has requested a budget of $46.82 million, which represents a 9.7 percent budget increase over fiscal year (FY) 2008.

Nigerian art comes to Hastings Elementary School
      Westborough - Hastings Elementary School third-graders (l to r) Lucas Powers, John Fallon, Cassie Domeij and Grace Sung work on a project inspired by Nigerian Adire Cloths, during art class. The students were creating designs with crayons on paper, which will then be covered with a light layer of paint to fill in between crayon lines.

School Committee pares $363,000 from proposed budget
      Northborough - The K-8 School Committee approved and forwarded to the town a proposed fiscal year (FY) 2009 budget in the amount of $17.5 million, an increase of almost $1 million over this year's budget. While the proposed budget is still an increase of 5.79 percent over the FY 2008 budget, it is $363,000 less than the preliminary budget unveiled last month.

'Honest Abe' visits Paton School
      Shrewsbury - On Feb. 4, the students at Walter J. Paton School had a special visitor. Rich Arum, an actor from the Historical Perspectives for Children organization, came dressed in costume as U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. Arum took the students on a journey back to 1865 and taught them what life was like for Lincoln as a young boy and through his presidency.

'Real-Life Cowboy' comes to Marlborough
