Enforcement of sign rules improve the view
      Marlborough - The signs in Marlborough are looking better. That's the opinion of city Building Commissioner Stephen Reid, who does most of the enforcement of the two-decadeold city sign ordinance. "Enforcement of the sign ordinance happens every day: there's nothing really different at this point," Reid said. "There are fewer signs that are non-conforming.

Lions Club announces Peace Poster Contest winner
      Marlborough - A poster created by Madeline Alvarez of Marlborough has been awarded first-place honors in the Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest by members of the Marlboro Lions Club. "Ms. Alvarez, a seventhgrade student at the Marlborough Middle School (MMS), was awarded a $100 savings bond," said Lion Richard Towle, who was the contest chair.

Temple Emanuel to host Purim celebration
      Marlborough - Purim will be celebrated at Temple Emanuel Sunday March 16, starting at 9:30 a.m., with music, games and fun for all ages. A Purim carnival will follow the Megillah reading. Everyone is encouraged to come in costume. Light refreshments will be served and Hamantashen will be available.

Marlborough Hospital named 'Best of Beacon'
      Marlborough - On Feb. 29, Marlborough Hospital was recognized with a "Best of Beacon Award" for peer-leading seven-day aftercare follow-up rates. Beacon Health Strategies said that studies have shown that engaging patients within seven to 30 days of their discharge optimizes the patients' chances for recovery and successful integration into the community.

      Marlborough - Birthdays don't come around every 365 days for a leap-year baby like State Rep. Stephen P. LeDuc, D-Marlborough. For the special occasion, LeDuc invited guests to join him for a casual get-together March 1 at the Walker Building. Revealing his age - or ages - LeDuc wore a T-shirt reading, "4 x 10 equals 40.
