Mayor thanks contributors to Project Clean Sweep 2008

To the Editor,

On Saturday, May 3rd, approximately 200 volunteers turned out to participate in the city of Marlborough's annual Project Clean Sweep eff ort. To the city employees, council members, residents and corporate volunteers who donated their time, materials and muscle, I extend my appreciation.

Many thanks to the dedicated group of city employees and volunteers who spent many hours during the preceding months to plan and coordinate all the components which worked to make this important city-wide initiative a success - Priscilla Ryder, Ron LaFreniere, Tom Cullen Dick Baldelli, Dave Grasso, Doran Crouse, Eliza Giroux, Peggy Ayres and Brian Palmer. Special thanks to corporate volunteers from Rohm & Haas, Raytheon, Hewlett Packard, Boston Scientific, DLCF Contractors as well as to McDonalds and Starbucks for providing refreshments. Community groups such as the French Hill Neighborhood Association, AART Inc, Boys & Girls Club, AMSA Charter and New Covenant Christian schools, the Scouts, Immaculate Conception Church confirmation classes, and Marlborough High School's National Honor Society were also instrumental to the success of our eff orts.

A total of 6.42 tons of trash and 238 pounds of recyclable material were collected from the city's roadways and neighborhoods with planning for next year already underway. Hope to see both familiar and new faces next spring for Clean Sweep 2009. Nancy Stevens Mayor
